CPS - How to identify nonresponses and distinguish between refusal v. noncontact?

#1

The CPS has information about nonresponses, including whether the reason is refusal or noncontact (e.g. “not at home” or “temporarily absent”), as exemplified by this page:

https://www.census.gov/programs-surve…

Where can I find these variables in the IPUMS CPS?

Thanks,

Wayne.

CPS - How to know whether a Type-A noninterview (HHINTYPE) is a refusal or a noncontact?
#2

The IPUMS CPS variable HHINTYPE indicates whether members of the household were interviewed and, if not, why no interview took place. Note that when using a rectangular data extract (e.g. with each observation being a person) non-interviewed households will not be included in the extract. Said differently, when using the (default) rectangular extract format, only individuals from households that responded to interviews will show up.
