Does anyone have a recommendation on how best to convert a hierarchical extract to a rectangular set?
- Are there handy ways to do this in R?
- Are there python or other scripts available to postprocess the data ?
The extract system makes it easy for you to convert your extracts from rectangular to hierarchical or from hierarchical to rectangular. Click on the ‘My Data’ tab to view your extracts and click ‘Revise’ next to the extract you would like to convert. Next to ‘Structure’ it will tell you the current format that the extract is in, you can select ‘Change’ which brings you to a page that allows you to change the data structure as needed. The process of tailoring your extract to your needs is outlined in the IPUMS Tutorials, titled ‘How to use the Extract System’ for each product.
