Hello!
I am working with the PMA Burkina Faso 2021 Female and Household Questionnaire and could not yet find out if the information derived from the household questionnaire describes the household in which respondents were interviewed (which I deem to be more likely) or the characteristics of the household each respondent usually belongs to. The confusion stems from the fact that the female survey was also administered to women who had spent the night at the hh as guests. Could anyone tell me which of those options is correct? I restricted my sample to women who were administered the IPV-item (part of the GBV questions). Is it true that the GBV-module was only administered to one randomly selected woman per household?
Thank you a lot in advance, I really appreciate any help
This PMA webpage for the Burkina Faso Phase 2 survey provides the following information regarding the household questionnaire:
The household questionnaire gathers basic information about the household, such as ownership of livestock and durable goods, as well as characteristics of the dwelling unit, including wall, floor and roof materials, water sources, and sanitation facilities. This information is used to construct a wealth quintile index. The first section of the household questionnaire, the household roster, lists basic demographic information about all usual members of the household and visitors who stayed with the household the night before the interview. This roster is used to identify eligible respondents for the female questionnaire.
The household questionnaire therefore only asks about the sampled household. Visitors who stayed with the household the night before the interview are included in the household roster, but the only household data associated with them is that of the sampled household that they were a visitor of.
Hello Ivan,
Thank you again for your response! I will restrict my sample to the de jure population (excluding the few guests part of the sample) then to ensure that household characteristics correctly describe women’s living standard. Yes, I went through the information on that website before, I am just confused about not being able to find the official explanation by PMA about which women were eligible for the GBV module / whether it is true that one woman was randomly selected per household.
