ATUS: identifying stepfamilies in 2003-2006

I’m interested in identifying stepfamilies in the ATUS-X data. I understand that PEMOMTYP and PEDADTYP (along with PECOHAB for non-married couples) can be used from 2007 onwards. However, I wanted to double check that there is no way of identifying stepfamilies from 2003-2006.

You’re correct that there is no way to identify step-families in ATUS or CPS prior to 2007, when CPS began collecting more detailed family interrelationship information.
