Hi, I’m looking for historical data on total population by Illinois cities (1308 cities total) from 1980-present. Similarly, I am also looking for median income (individual and household) by Illinois cities from 1980-present. Can someone please show the steps to access these data?

Since you are primarily looking for aggregated data at a specific geographic level (city), you will want to look at [IPUMS NHGIS](http://nhgis.org/). There you can find summary tables for total population and median income at the city level. Both video and PDF tutorials for learning how to get the data you want from IPUMS NHGIS are available in the [User’s Guide](https://www.nhgis.org/user-resources/users-guide) along with a full, hour long webinar-style introduction video. As you bump into confusing aspects or have trouble finding the right resource, please let us know here so we can help you get the data you are looking for.
