# Student Loans and Student Loan Amounts

Are student loans and student loan amounts available in this dataset?

The datasets on [IPUMS USA](https://usa.ipums.org/usa/) do not include any information on student loans. However, the [IPUMS Higher Ed](https://highered.ipums.org/highered/index.shtml) data project harmonizes data from the National Survey of College Graduates which includes variables related to student loans such as [UGLOAN](https://highered.ipums.org/highered-action/variables/UGLOAN) (total borrowing for undergraduate loans) and [UGBAL](https://highered.ipums.org/highered-action/variables/UGBAL) (remaining balance from undergraduate loans). You can find additional documentation and [data from more recent years of this survey](https://ncses.nsf.gov/surveys/national-survey-college-graduates/2023#survey-info) on the National Center for Science and Engineering Statistics (NCSES) website.
