Questions about Federal Public Administration (FPA)

Dear IPUMS,

I am checking the Federal Public Administration (FPA) across years.

FPA is coded as 916 in the variable IND1950.

Specifically, I want to know FPA across the years from 1910 to 2010. (For 1910-1940 full size, 1950 and 1970 1%, 1960, 1980, 1990, and 2000 5%, and ACS 2000-2019 datasets)

I am interested in definitions of FPA, and the potential changes of its definitions across years.

Information about changes to IND1950 is available on the Integrated Occupation and Industry Codes page. The questionnaire tab for IND1950 provides the wording of the question asked, which could be helpful. More detailed information about how industries are defined is not available in IPUMS documentation that I am aware of. You might have better luck finding how Federal Public Administration is defined in documentation provided by the U.S. Census, including the North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) website, or this page on Industry and Occupation Classification.
