# NHIS Mental Health Variables?

What variables are available in the NHIS related to mental health? I saw the questions related to the Kessler 6 measure. Are questions from the PHQ-9 included in the survey?

Under the ‘Person’ tab on the [Select Data page](https://ihis.ipums.org/ihis-action/variables/group), there is an entire category dedicated to ‘Mental Health’. Specifically regarding the PHQ-9 depression questions, I don’t see these variables explicitly available in IPUMS Health Surveys. There is, however, a sub-category under the ‘Mental Health’ category dedicated to ‘Depression’.
