# Is there a way to filter and/or analyze by field of degree (degfieldd) in the 5-year samples?

Is there a way to filter and/or analyze by field of degree (degfieldd) in the 5-year samples?

Unfortunately, [DEGFIELD](https://usa.ipums.org/usa-action/variables/DEGFIELD#availability_section) is not available in the 5-year ACS samples. It is, however, available in the single year samples from 2009 onward and in the 2011, 2012, and 2013 3-year ACS samples.

If you would like to conduct an analysis using field of degree for a particular 5 year period, you may want to consider using the single-year samples to build your own 5-year file.
