# Data sharing policy

Hello,

Some journals require data to be shared with them. I wanted to ask if users are allowed to share data with journals. Thank you.

The data redistribution policy varies by IPUMS data collection, but you can consult the [IPUMS Terms of Use](http://ipums.org/about/terms) for details on any given data collection. I encourage you to contact [ipums@umn.edu](mailto:ipums@umn.edu) with information about which IPUMS data collection you are using and the samples and variables in your data file that you would like to redistribute for a more specific answer. If you have a specific data file you would like to redistribute, share that information so we may review the request.
