# CPS-TUS weight

Hi,
I would like to carry analysis on the CPS-TUS, and use its longitudinal opportunity in 1999-2000/2002-2003 and 2010-2011
I am wondering how I should be using the weights.

The [Tobacco Use Supplement Sample Notes](https://cps.ipums.org/cps/tobacco_sample_notes.shtml) page contains some information about weighting in general for the tobacco supplements. In particular, there are three weights available: [TBSUPPWT](https://cps.ipums.org/cps-action/variables/TBSUPPWT#codes_section), [TNRWT](https://cps.ipums.org/cps-action/variables/TNRWT#description_section) (a “non-response” weight used when analyzing all responses of the tobacco supplement items), and [TSRWT](https://cps.ipums.org/cps-action/variables/TSRWT#description_section) (use only when analyzing only self-responses and excluding responses by proxies).
There are also several [longitudinal weights](https://cps.ipums.org/cps/cps_linking_documentation.shtml#linked_weights) that are available. Given your description, it sounds like you may want to look into using [LNKFW1YWT](https://cps.ipums.org/cps-action/variables/LNKFW1YWT#description_section), which is a longitudinal weight for two adjacent years. Once you’ve included the desired weight(s) in your data extract, you should be able to apply the weights in the statistical tool of your choice (Stata, SAS, SPSS, etc.).
