# Cannot find city code

I am trying to find the city code for:

- Jerome, Arizona
- Elkhart, Indiana
- Endicott, New York
- Kilgore, Texas
- Dahlonega, Georgia

However, I tried to do the steps suggested in [this post](https://forum.ipums.org/t/in-online-data-i-have-tried-to-use-city-chicago-as-a-filter-variable-for-1860-i-get-syntax-errors-whats-wrong/336/2), but I do not see the alphabetical list that the user mentions. All I see is the variable label and the number of instances.

Cities codes and their availability across samples in IPUMS USA can be found [here](https://usa.ipums.org/usa-action/variables/CITY#codes_section). In some cases (for example, Jerome, Arizona), it looks like the city is not identified in any samples, therefore it will not have a code. For others, such as Elkhart, Indiana (code 2060), it looks like it is only identified in the following samples: 1900 5%, 1910 1% and 1930 5%
