# Can I use replicate weights with non-ASEC samples? Should I?

I have not found any replicate weight variables for the basic monthly surveys or the suppliments. Do the the CPS Replicate Weights apply only to the ASEC, or can (and should) they be used with any sample linked with the ASEC?

If the latter, are the sample-specific weights discarded, or combined with the replicate weights in some way?

As you have noted, replicate weights (REPWTP and REPWT) are only available for ASEC samples. [This page](https://cps.ipums.org/cps/repwt.shtml) provides a bit more detail about replicate weights. These weights should only be applied to ASEC samples.

For weighting linked samples, we have several [longitudinal weights](https://cps.ipums.org/cps/cps_linking_documentation.shtml#linked_weights) available. Otherwise, if you are looking at individual supplements, respective [supplement weights](https://cps.ipums.org/cps/weights_renaming_2018.shtml) are available.
