# Aggregation for ind1990

There are broad occcupation categories available under 1 for occupations classified under occ2010. I cannot find a similar aggregation list under 2 for ind1990. Is it available elsewhere? Can I aggregate industries somehow?

There are broad industry categories marked in capital letters on the [codes tab](https://usa.ipums.org/usa-action/variables/IND1990#codes_section). These can be aggregated by summing up the disaggregated industry codes under each heading. This is essentially the same as the occupation, only the code ranges are not explicitly listed on the variable description tab, but rather can be found on the codes tab. Keeping an eye on the composite coding for the industry variables could be of use here. The first and second digits of the codes indicate a much more aggreagated catagory.
